Inspired by the unconventional approach of the Norwegian artist, sculptor and Picasso collaborator Carl Nesjar, Carl is durable, multi-use fabric made from a cotton-linen blend. Domaas/Høgh have translated Nesjar’s use of sandblasting concrete to create positive and negative surfaces into textile design, employing fibres of different colours and adopting a number of techniques to create varying thicknesses and levels of shine. The result is a patterned surface with multiple layers.
Having met while studying product design at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences, Ane Domaas and Kathrine Høgh began collaborating in 2011, aiming to create work that reflect the distinctive modesty of the Norwegian temperament. Their products are typically designed for everyday life, often offering unconventional solutions to domestic needs and incorporating a characteristic touch of humour.
