The Norwegian design collective Angell Wyller & Aarseth (AWAA) was founded in 2010 by Christoffer Angell, Øyvind Wyller and Simen Aarseth. While pursuing Master of Design degrees at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, the three realised they had complementary ideas about design and decided to form a loose collective. In 2014 they designed Saddle, a modest and friendly chair with a solid structure and a «soft nest» for the sitter. This feeling is emphasised by the newspaper pockets that hang over the arm-rests like saddlebags. By differentiating the wooden frame from the upholstery, the notion of a rigid construction contrasts with and thus underscores the chair’s comfort and softness.
Slåke was founded in 1938 and has been manufacturing classic furniture for more than 75 years. Scandinavian Design, Norwegian production and the use of solid wood as the main material are hallmarks of Slåke’s products. Here craftsmanship means caring for the material and never compromising. Slåke’s vision is to create new classics in the Nordic design tradition. Together with the Norwegian design-trio Angell, Wyller & Aarseth, the company has created the new chair Saddle. At the same time, it continues with the traditional production of the Jærstol, which dates back to 1898.
